I not sure if you’ve noticed it...but lead-times, even on more common type parts, are being pushed further and further out...
Inventory has become a "dirty word" in this economy and as inventories shrink, delivery times become extended. It is not uncommon to see 14-week lead-times for parts that once had a 4-week delivery just two years ago...I recently talked with a manufacturer who was purchasing a part with an incredible 60-week lead time!!!...in 60 weeks...one could literally build a house from scratch...
OptiFuse is not immune to the longer lead times due the problem of getting raw materials. Whereas we could purchase zinc, glass tubes, plastic resin, and/or plated sheet metal right off the shelf of our material vendors, now we are being quoted 4-6 weeks for the raw materials...
Just yesterday I had a customer who called us frantically looking for some needed parts. Unfortunately we didn’t have these parts available...BUT we were able to show the customer an alternative part that actually worked well in their application...
Many times, there are applications where a better fuse can be used in place of a "value priced" fuse. For instance, a ceramic tube fuse can almost always be used in place of a glass tube fuse...yes, the ceramic tube is a bit more costly...but if your entire assembly line is down due to the lack of a fuse...doesn’t it make sense to spend the few more pennies and to get the line moving?
OptiFuse currently maintains inventory on over 7,000 different circuit protection parts. This inventory can be viewed 24/7 on the OptiFuse website along with the inventory of many OptiFuse franchised distributors.
Of course, not every part is substitutable, so please keep the longer lead-times in mind when considering your manufacturing needs. OptiFuse will continue to do everything in our power to make sure your manufacturing lines stay up and running.
Longer lead-time are here to stay (at least for a while longer)...
Thanks you for your continued support of OptiFuse as we try strive to keep you up and running.
