When Fast isn’t Fast Enough

There are time-delay fuses and there are fast acting fuses...

There are also REALLY fast-acting fuses.  Why you say, are there really fast-acting fuses?

The answer is simple...the faster the fuse...the less "let-thru" current...which means less I2T...which means better protection of sensitive equipment downstream...

OptiFuse has two options from OptiFuse that engineers can choose from for super fast fuses.  The first option is the SCA, which is a ¼" x 1 ¼" ceramic tube fuse and the SCC, which is a 5 x 20 mm ceramic tube fuse.  (In case you didn’t notice...the "S" in the part number stands for "Super-Fast" whereas the "F" - as in FCA - stands for "Normal Fast").

The SCA fuse is rated at 500 VAC from 1A to 30A.  The SCC fuse is rated at 250 VAC from 1A to 20A.  Both are recognized components by UL.

Both Bussmann and Littelfuse have equivalent parts to the SCA series (¼" x 1 ¼" size) which are the GBB and 322 series respectively.  Neither company has an equivalent to the SCC (5 x 20 mm).

The SCA and SCC are both available with a pigtail option where our competitors do not provide this option at all.

The primary use for these fuses is the protection of sensitive equipment such as rectifiers, SCR and transistors.  Due to the performance of these fuses, the cost can be ten-times that of a "normal" fast acting fuse therefore careful consideration of the need should be taken before using these fuses for general applications (unless of course you want to help the economy by paying ten-times the cost)

Please consider the OptiFuse SCA and SCC fuses next time your application calls for a super fast-acting fuse

Thank you very much for your continued support of OptiFuse where we are fast to solving all your power protection needs
