A Better Circuit Breaker

A few weeks ago I wrote about a misapplication of a automatic reset circuit breaker (Type I).  The problem is that many times the overcurrent problem that tripped the circuit breaker in the first place was never corrected.  The automatic reset circuit breaker will continue to cycle open and closed until finally it fails.

In order to alleviate this problem, I have begun to recommend a manual type circuit breaker (Type III) in place of the automatic reset for most automotive applications.

We have recently introduced a new line of manual reset circuit breakers that plug into a standard automotive fuse clip.  These new circuit breakers eliminate the problem of the circuit breaker continuing to reset itself.

The part number for the new manual reset circuit breaker is our
MRCBP4-PL-XXA (where the -XX is the amperage of the circuit breaker).

The voltage of the circuit breaker is 28 VDC although these circuit breakers can be used in both 12 volt or 24 volt systems.

The amperages of the MRCBP4-PL range from 5A to 30A with a maximum interrupting rating 2000A.

The circuit breakers are constructed of high temperature thermal plastic and are color coded to match their fuse automotive equivalent for easy identification.

These circuit breakers meet or exceed the specifications of SAE J553.

The pricing is slightly higher than that of the automatic reset due to the nature of the construction of the reset mechanism, but it is still very competitively priced when compared to Cooper Bussmann or other circuit breaker manufacturers.

Unfortunately we are lagging a bit on our website updates so you may need to wait a few days before a data sheet is available for this part.  If you need one sooner, please contact me directly and I’ll send one to you by e-mail.

Thank you very much for your continued support of OptiFuse as we try to provide products that solve our customers problems.
