F3T Class T Fuse: Fast-Acting Protection for High-Current AC and DC Systems

High-current circuits can deliver an enormous amount of energy during a short circuit, especially when the source is a large battery bank, inverter system, or switchboard.
In these applications, the protective device must do more than eventually open the circuit. It must interrupt the fault safely and limit how much current passes through downstream conductors and equipment.
The OptiFuse F3T is a fast-acting, current-limiting Class T fuse designed for high-current AC and DC power distribution. With ratings from 1A to 1200A, the F3T provides compact branch and feeder protection across a wide range of industrial, commercial, marine, and mobile power systems.
What Defines Class T Protection
Class T fuses are known for combining high interrupting capacity with a relatively compact footprint:
The F3T is rated for:
- 300VAC / 160VDC at 1A through 1200A
- 200kA interrupting rating at 300VAC
- 50kA interrupting rating at 160VDC
- UL 248-15 Class T listing
Why Current Limitation Matters
A fuse’s interrupting rating indicates the maximum fault current it can safely interrupt. Current limitation describes something different.
During a severe short circuit, a current-limiting fuse can begin opening before the prospective fault current reaches its first peak. This reduces the peak current and fault energy allowed to pass into downstream equipment.
Pairing the F3T with an OptiFuse Fuse Block
For higher-current DC installations, the F3T can be paired with the OptiFuse BLT3-200 or BLT3-400 fuse block.
The BLT3-200 accepts F3T fuses from 110A to 200A, while the BLT3-400 is designed for 225A to 400A F3T ratings. Both include insulating covers intended to reduce the risk of accidental contact or short circuits. The assemblies are also ignition protected when the specified F3T fuse is installed.
These blocks are a strong fit for battery compartments, inverter installations, marine systems, and other applications using large cable lugs and high-current conductors.
